Being Black and nerdy hasn’t always been so glamorous. But, HBCUs have been instrumental in changing that narrative.  There is a whole community of Black Geeks and Nerds who have found safe spaces on HBCU campuses, where intellect is the norm.  So, it should come as no surprise that they created an event for other anime and cosplay lovers alike; HBCU Con.  This “Black Geek Homecoming” celebrates all things diverse and inclusive and BLACK

HBCU Con, in collaboration with Bowie State University’s Fine & Performing Arts Department (DFPA) and Visual Communications & Digital Media Arts (VCDMA) Program, presents its inaugural LIVE convention on the campus of Bowie State University!

HBCU Con is a 3 day event full of gaming, anime, cosplay, special performances, panel discussions and more. And, while this is an in-person event, there is a virtual option too. Mark your calendars for April 29th- May 1st, but tickets are on sale now.  Join fellow Blerds for a fun weekend as we celebrate the culture and influence of HBCUs and Black geeks around the world!

Check out the HBCU Con website for details and updates to the weekend line up.
