A friend suggested it after she began to attend Texas Southern University. I wanted a supportive and inclusive environment. I wanted professors who understood and related to my experiences of being an African American in the science field.
WHAT DID YOU LEARN DURING YOUR TIME A YOUR COLLEGE?
I gained valuable insights during my college experience, emphasizing the importance of supportive mentors, adapting to my environment, and persevering through challenges. These lessons were fundamental to personal and academic growth.
HOW DID YOUR HBCU EFFECT YOUR LIFE?
HBCU had such a positive impact on my life, providing opportunities, connections, and a supportive community. Building a network and gaining exposure to various experiences which are very crucial for personal and professional development.
SHARE 3 OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL THINGS YOU HAVE DONE SINCE LEAVING COLLEGE?
Starting two businesses, acquiring additional credentials, and actively participating in workshops and conferences as an attendee and workshop speaker. I have used those skills in my wedding and event planning business Heaven’s Touch of Glory and The Doctor Speaks where I endeavor to travel the world to let others know you can overcome any obstacle in life.
WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE OTHER FUTURE OR YOUNG DOCTOR?
I would encourage others to pursue their dreams, persevere through challenges, and embrace deferred gratification. Determination and resilience are the key roles in achieving long-term success.
WHAT IS NEXT FOR YOU WITH IN 5 YEARS?
My clear goals for both personal and professional growth, including further developing my wedding and event planning business as well as The Doctor Speaks.
