WHAT HBCU DID YOU ATTEND?
Alabama A&M University
WHAT MADE YOU ATTEND THAT HBCU?
I went to a college preparatory high school that emphasized the importance of having a higher education. AAMU was apart of a college fair that our school visited and I loved the HBCU culture. AAMU’s admissions department gives young adults who never envisioned themselves going to college, a fighting chance. AAMU taught me so much about providing service to others, the instructors held us accountable for our actions and they taught us life skills that I use until this very day. I am forever grateful for my HBCU.
WHAT DID YOU LEARN DURING YOUR TIME A YOUR COLLEGE?
First and foremost, I became a believer in Christ with the help of my advisor, Patrick ‘Javier’ Thompson, at A&M. Secondly, I learned how to take accountability for my actions, how to not make excuses and how to show up when I am required. Overall, I believe Alabama A&M University groomed me to be the young professional that I am today.
WHAT DID YOU TAKE WITH YOU WHEN YOU LEFT THE COLLEGE?
I took AAMU’s motto: Service is Sovereignty with me when I left the college. Annually, my company hosts a food drive for Thanksgiving to assist local families in need. We also collect back to school supplies every summer. Providing service to my community is very important to me.
WHAT IS YOUR INSPIRATION?
My children inspire me. I’ve broken generational barriers that my ancestors probably never imagined. I want my children to understand the importance of a higher education and generational wealth.
WHAT DO YOU SEE YOURSELF DOING 10 YEARS FROM NOW?
10 years from now, I will be sending my daughter off to college and preparing to be an empty nester four years later after my son goes off to college. In that time, I plan to own a custom novelty shop that will hold all of the most beloved, classic and memorable apparel and gifts that are locally handmade with love.
