NBC has given a series order for the new medical drama series, “Dr. Wolf.” The series draws its inspiration from Oliver Sacks’ books “The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat” and “An Anthropologist on Mars.”
The show, originally ordered as a pilot in January, stars Zachary Quinto, Tamberla Perry, Ashleigh LaThrop, Alexander MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II, and Teddy Sears.
Quinto leads as Dr. Oliver Wolf, who is described as a revolutionary and larger-than-life neurologist. He heads a team of interns who venture into uncharted territory – the human mind. In addition to their exploration of the human psyche, the team also grapples with their personal relationships and mental well-being.
Michael Grassi penned the series and is also the executive producer. Lee Toland Krieger directed the pilot and also holds an executive producer role. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman contribute as executive producers through Berlanti Productions. Henrik Bastin and Melissa Aouate handle executive production for Fabel Entertainment, with Andy Serkis, Jonathan Cavendish, and Will Tennant as executive producers via The Imaginarium. DeMane Davis also joins as an executive producer. The series is produced through a collaboration between Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, both of which have established deals with Berlanti Productions, Grassi, and Krieger.
As for its air date, due to the ongoing actors’ strike in Hollywood, it remains uncertain if “Dr. Wolf” will be ready to launch midseason or if it will be held until the following fall.
“Dr. Wolf” was one of the four pilots that NBC ordered during the last pilot season, a season that was notably shortened due to a writers’ strike that was recently resolved. Among those four pilots, the only other show to receive a pickup was the mockumentary comedy “St. Denis Medical.”
