WHAT HBCU YOU ATTEND?
Tuskegee University
WHAT MADE YOU ATTEND YOUR HBCU?
I went to Tuskegee on a basketball scholarship. I was also drawn to the strong sense of community, cultural connection, and supportive environment that Tuskegee offered. Social awareness was very important to me. I wanted to make sure I was in a place where I wasn’t just a number and I would get the support needed. Engaging in social justice issues and activism on campus can cultivate a strong sense of social responsibility and civic engagement.
WHAT DID YOU LEARN DURING YOUR TIME A YOUR COLLEGE?
Tuskegee provided a unique and empowering experience, fostering a deep sense of pride and belonging. I learned that mentorship for black students are very important. I learned that in order to be successful you have to seek guidance and not be afraid to ask for help. I learned cultural identity. HBCUs celebrate and embrace African American culture, history, and heritage. For many students, this cultural immersion can enhance their sense of identity and pride, providing a unique and empowering experience. That’s exactly what is did for me.
HOW DID YOUR HBCU EFFECT YOUR LIFE?
Tuskegee changed my life. A Sense of Community is very important. HBCUs often provide a strong sense of community and belonging. The support system at Tuskegee fostered lifetime friendships, mentorships, and lifelong connections with fellow students, faculty, and alumni. Tuskegee taught me how to network. Tuskegee taught me hard work and that nothing is given to you. Every single day I still keep that mindset and mental toughness.
