MEET Jonathan Galvin & Yonic Anderson

We met through an online dating app called Bumble. We immediately connected by talking about football and sharing our HBCU experiences. After talking on the phone for about one month, we finally decided to meet in person for dinner. The date went very well, so the rest is now history.

After dating for a few years, his mother had a surgical procedure that did not end well. Consequently, I watched him care for her with great compassion, strength, patience, and perserverance. Having a medical background, I was able to easily advocate for her care and support him through making life changing decisions. I also have Lupus and he is very supportive and understanding about caring for me as well. We have both been there for each other in every aspect of our lives and I can no longer imagine him not being a part of my life.

Our birthdays are only 3 days apart, so we decided to take a weekend getaway to celebrate in January 2023. We went to Nashville, TN to tour the Nearest Green Distillery and learn more about the black slave who taught Jack Daniels how to distill whiskey. While there, we also went to Eddie V’s Prime Seafood restaurant and had a romantic dinner. We then headed back to our Airbnb, and I stepped outside on the patio to get a glimpse of the beautiful skyline. As I was walking back in, there he was with a ring asking me to spend the rest of my life with him. It was undoubtedly the best birthday ever.

We tend to alternate each year of which school we will attend together. So far, this has not been an issue. The best times are when our schools are playing each other and we’re debating who has the best band!
