WHAT MADE YOU ATTEND YOUR HBCU?
I chose to attend Alabama State University because of its strong College of Business program, vibrant student life, cultural connection, and the rich history of Montgomery. ASU has a long-standing tradition of empowering and uplifting students, which was important to me. Being in Montgomery, the city with such a significant historical background, added to the overall experience and sense of pride I felt as a student at ASU.
WHAT DID YOU LEARN DURING YOUR TIME A YOUR COLLEGE?
During my time at Alabama State University, I learned a wide range of knowledge and skills that have been invaluable to my personal and professional growth. ASU provided me with a solid foundation in my chosen field of study. I gained a deep understanding of the subjects I studied with the rigorous curriculum and dedicated faculty who helped me develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills. I also learned cultural appreciation and diversity through the vibrant student life. This helped me broaden my worldview and enhanced my ability to collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds. I also learned leadership, personal development, and the importance of community engagement. I learned how to manage projects and take initiative. I gained confidence in public speaking, networking, and building professional relationships. ASU instilled in me a sense of social responsibility and the importance of giving back to the community.
WHAT WAS YOUR DECISION TO PLEDGE ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA INC?
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is in my family. I wanted to be apart of a sisterhood of trailblazing women, community service leaders who provide service to all mankind, and grow personally and professionally with like-minded women.
HOW DID YOUR HBCU EFFECT YOUR LIFE?
Alabama State University changed my life. It allowed me to see the world through a different lens. I broadened my horizon, deepened my understanding of many things, had tremendous personal growth, made connections that were meaningful and still matter to this day, and it exposed me to cultural and social experiences that helped enhance my understanding of the world. It also opened up many career opportunities for me.
WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE A YOUNG ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA?
Keep God first before any other thing. With God being the center of your life, everything else will fall into place.
WHAT IS NEXT FOR YOU WITH IN 5 YEARS?
I plan on adding more titles such a playright and author. I will increase my presence in underrepresented communities to teach students about why HBCU’s are important, and I will continue to grow my business to help as many entrepreneurs as possible flourish in their business.
