SO, EXACTLY HOW DID YOU MEET?
We met in front of my dormitory. He was a sophomore and I was a freshman. One of his classmates who went to high school with me introduced him to me. And, I was interested in getting to know him better at first sight.
HOW DID YOU KNOW THIS WAS GOING TO BE THE PERSON THAT YOU WOULD MARRY?
As I got to know him, I was deeply moved by his integrity and honesty. As well, I simply enjoyed spending time with him. But, when I went away to graduate school after completing my undergrad studies and he followed me, I realized then that he was the man with whom I wanted to spend the rest of my life.
DESCRIBE THE PROPOSAL?
He told my parents that he was going to ask me to marry him. Then, one day, before family and friends, he got down on one knee, opened a box containing a ring, and asked fir my hand in marriage.
HOW DO YOU CHOOSE WHICH HOMECOMING YOU ATTEND EACH YEAR?
We went to the same HBCU, so we go to homecoming together every year.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN MARRIED?
In July 2024, we will have been married 35 years.
