It’s no secret that “classic season” is one of the most anticipated traditions in the HBCU experience.  From The Florida Classic to the Magic City Classic in Birmingham, Alabama, current students and alumni from all over anticipate the fellowship and pageantry from the end of on season to the beginning of the next.  Now there is a new classic to add to our bucket list, the HBCU New York Football Classic.  The inaugural competition will be between Howard University and Morehouse College.  The two teams will compete in September at MetLife Stadium in Rutherford, New Jersey.  They have not competed against each other since 2015.  According a press release, fans can watch it live on CNBC.

Now, we know that “classic weekend” is not simply about the game and the halftime show. Clearly, “the classic” is an experience.  Fans will have access to plenty of events like mixers, galas, a pep rally and step show, and of course, tailgating. Undoubtedly, this is great recruiting tool for students and athletes who can get a taste of the HBCU experience.

In addition to the fan fun, event organizers Sports Eleven05 and nonprofit HBCU Tools For School Foundation plan highlight the other HBCUs by giving each student book scholarships and laptops during the game.

Tickets for the inaugural HBCU New York Football Classic are already on sale at all Ticketmaster locations and at MetLife Stadium ticket outlets.  Additional information on tickets and HBCU NYFC Events can be found on the Classic’s website at http://www.hbcunyfc.com.

We all know the positive impact of our dear HBCUs.  Now, more of the nation will too.  Now, who can I room with for the classic? You know this first one will be FYE!
